Vision and Action
Vision Statement
The company's vision consists of four parts. The purpose
establishes the reason for our existence. The mission is a set of
specific actions we will take to support that purpose. The values
are the principles by which we will be guided in accomplishing
our mission. The measures of success describe how we will know
when the mission is accomplished.
Purpose
We are in business to help advance humankind's understanding
of the physical universe with the aim of reaching the stars. We want the scientists of each
generation to see a bit more deeply into Nature's laws than
did previous generations.
Mission
We will support our purpose by exciting the curiosity of future
scientists and by working with them early in their careers to
give them a solid understanding of some fundamental principles,
providing a platform from which they may reach new levels of
insight into how the universe works.
Values
In accomplishing this mission we will treat our customers,
competitors, suppliers and associates with genuine courtesy and
respect.
Measures of Success
We will measure our success by the success of our customers.
Success is in the intersection of preparation and opportunity.
Opportunity is provided by our environment and we control it only
to the extent that we place ourselves in opportunity's way.
Preparation is entirely under our control. Our business is to
prepare our customers to make the most of their opportunities in
science education both in formal school settings and in the wider
world. We will know we are successful when our customers have
world wide recognition as scientific thinkers.
Actions Taken
A once prominent politician announced a while back that there should
be a computer in every classroom. As authors of teaching software
we are pleased to hear that, but we think he may have gotten it
backwards. It has been our belief since the founding of our
company in 1993 that there should be a classroom in every
computer.
With that in mind we have moved along two paths. We offer
run-time books seen listed at the right. These run on stand alone IBM compatible personal computers. We also provide self paced science courses on the world wide web. You will find our physics course and our mathematics of chaos course listed with our other web site features at the left.
